چکیده

This study compared the shear bond strength (SBS) to enamel of five self-etching primer/adhesive systems and one total-etch, one-bottle adhesive system. Sixty freshly extracted bovine incisors were mounted, polished to 600-grit and randomly assigned to six groups (n=10): Adper Prompt Self-Etch (AD), OptiBond Solo Plus Self-Etch (OP), AdheSE (AS), Tyrian (TY) and Clearfil SE Bond (SE) as self-etching systems; and Single Bond (SB) as a total-etch system (control). The respective hybrid composite was applied in a #5 gelatin capsule and light-cured. After 500 thermal cycles (5 degrees C-55 degrees C), the specimens were loaded in shear using an Instron at 5 mm/minute. Mean bond strengths were analyzed with one-way ANOVA, followed by a Duncan's post-hoc test (p 0.05). SBS (mean +/- SD) were: AD=13.0(+/- 2.5); OP=5.6(+/-2.3);AS=12.6(+/-3.7); TY=7.6(+/-2.6); SE=17.6(+/-4.5) and SB=17.9(+/-4.4). ANOVA showed a significant difference at p<0.0001. Duncan's post-hoc test ranked this difference in three homogeneous subsets. Only SE showed similar enamel SBS compared to the total-etch system tested (SB). AD and AS were ranked in the intermediary Duncan's subset, while TY and OP resulted in the lowest SBS. SBS to enamel with self-etching primers may depend on its specific composition.

Comparison between self-etching and conventional primers in repeated bracket bonding

Background and Aim: This study aimed to evaluate the effect of repeated bonding by self-etching primers (SEPs) and a conventional phosphoric acid-etchant on shear bond strength (SBS), adhesive remnant index (ARI), and enamel morphology at different debonding time points. Materials and Methods: In this experimental study, 120 premolars were randomly divided into six groups of 20. In the first t...

Influence of additional etching on shear bond strength of self-etching adhesive system to enamel

Recently, self-etching adhesive system has been introduced to simplify the clinical bonding procedures. It is less acidic compared to the phosphoric acid, thus there is doubt whether this system has enough bond strength to enamel. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of additional etching on the adhesion of resin composite to enamel. Ninety extracted bovine permanent anter...

مقایسه سه سیستم self-etch adhesive در استحکام برشی باند کامپوزیتبه مینا در شرایط خشک و مرطوب

Background and Aim: The bonding mechanisms of self etching primers, based upon the simultaneous etching and priming of dentin, simplifies the bonding technique, but the efficiency of these systems is still controversial. This study compared the shear bond strength of three self etch adhesive systems in dry and wet conditions. Materials and Method: In this experimental study, 77 intact bovine lo...

Comparison of Shear Bond Strength of Composite Restorations to Intact Enamel of Primary Incisors When Using Different Conditioners and Adhesive Systems

Introdouction: Esthetic demands of patients have led to the introduction of tooth-colored restorations wherecomposite resins are bonded to the enamel using acid etch techniques. Total etch adhesion systems are still considered as the gold standard among bonding systems. However, clinicians have a tendency to use adhesive systems with simpler application procedures. The aim of the present stu...
